New Office Annex, US Embassy Complex

Bangkok, Thailand

THE BRIEF

The New Office Annex expands the United States Embassy Complex in Bangkok, providing workplace support for more than 1,000 staff and public-facing services. The project sits within a culturally significant site where new construction needed to coexist with historic temple structures, mature trees, and waterways.

Strategy

We helped SHoP Architects develop a facade that responds directly to Bangkok’s climate and traditional architectural forms. Deep anodized aluminum screens sit outside the window wall system, providing shade and a layered architectural expression. An interstitial catwalk provides ongoing access for maintenance.

RESULT

At the New Office Annex, the facade responds directly to Bangkok’s climate while supporting the long-term needs of the embassy.
